Want to hear news on my wedding in just 38 days? (Lord. in your mercy...)
We decided that this tree would be the altar.

We were deciding between the tree and a makeshift bridge (which we will definitely take pictures on - cause... mmm so cute and symbolic and all the things). We looked at each other and I said you go first. He said tree. Yay! I was thinking tree too. (mushy, mushy).
When planning for a wedding, it’s easy to become consumed with the details…flowers, seating charts, meal choices. But beneath the event lies something deeper: a sacred season of preparation. Not just logistical, but spiritual and emotional. And if you want to read some thing funny, look up the history of the wedding traditions. Y’all they’re horrible and hilarious and not to mention most are rooted in patriarchy.
In Jesus’ parable of the ten bridesmaids (Matthew 25:1–13), five came prepared with extra oil; five did not. The difference wasn’t in their invitation, but in their readiness. The wise ones brought what they needed for the wait. Their preparation was not only for the arrival but for the unknown timing. How often do we prepare knowing that the wait is possible or inevitable? Whew! I mean that's hitting me again even now.
As I prepare for marriage, (the lifetime not just wedding the day) the oil we need isn’t just romance or good communication…it's trust, resilience, patience, and grace. And these can’t be rushed or borrowed at the last minute. They are cultivated in the quiet, daily choices to grow through prayer, therapy, reflection, forgiveness and of course the verb - LOVE.. And let’s face it some of it will be grown and learned through conflict and miscommunication.
Spiritual preparation, too, often happens in unseen ways. It’s saying yes to God’s next move before we know all the details. (read that line again). It’s filling our lamps with listening, surrender, and intimacy with Christ so when the door opens, we’re not scrambling… we’re ready.
🕊️ Whether you’re waiting for a partner, a new season, a calling, or clarity…what’s the oil God is inviting you to gather now? What does preparation look like for the thing you’re praying for?
May we be like the wise bridesmaids - awake, expectant, and filled with what will carry us through the wait.
